Beauty RevolutionFlintshire based, beauty salon owner Jane Bellis is all set to take her alternative fashion show around the UK after huge success in Liverpool recently.

Massive success

Her alternative fashion show was the talk of Liverpool last month as it included models who don’t fit the stereotypical images of skinny and tall. They include plus size, transgender, disabled, petite, heavily-tattooed, and heavily-pierced models. The event was staged at Circo at the famous Albert Dock and was a massive success with hundreds of people in attendance. Off the back of this initial success the show will now be rolled out with further dates booked in Manchester, Birmingham and London.

Jane came up with the idea after becoming increasingly alarmed by the message being portrayed by fashion brands and the media that to look good, you’ve got to be a heavily photo-shopped supermodel or a WAG.

Horrified by the message being out across to young girls

She states that “I’m absolutely horrified by the message that’s being put across to young girls these days is that there’s only one form of beauty. One that includes a dangerously low BMI and a ton of fake hair and lashes. In fact the whole thing is way out of hand and instead, I wanted to celebrate the fact that people can be beautiful in all walks of life without having to fit this ridiculous brief”

The 36 year old mum of four has a thriving beauty salon in Ewloe Flintshire complete with her own fashion brand ‘Bellisimo.’

One-stop beauty shop

Originally training as a make up artist she landed a work experience opportunity to work at a film studios in Manchester. However after she fell pregnant with her first child at the age of 20 her career took a slightly different path where she then took a beauty therapy course and worked for a while as a mobile beautician. She also branched out into wedding make-up. Keen to add to her skills Jane also took a holistic therapy course and later a hairdressing course. Finally in 2004 she opened a ‘one-stop’ shop for beauty and hair treatment in Ewloe – Bellisimo.

Jane states that for many years she’s been wanting to do something that represents beauty in all forms and launching her very own alternative fashion show gave her the chance to do exactly this. Check out her website at www.bellisimocreative.co.uk for further alternative fashion show dates.
